{"id":34936,"date":"2024-09-09T17:04:34","date_gmt":"2024-09-09T14:04:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kazan-kremlin.ru\/?post_type=poi&#038;p=34936"},"modified":"2024-09-09T17:04:36","modified_gmt":"2024-09-09T14:04:36","slug":"tainitskaya-tower","status":"publish","type":"poi","link":"https:\/\/kazan-kremlin.ru\/en\/poi\/tainitskaya-tower\/","title":{"rendered":"Tainitskaya Tower"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kazan-kremlin.ru\/wp-content\/uploads\/dsc09195-1150x767.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"is-style-block-title wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-object-description\">OBJECT DESCRIPTION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This gate tower was constructed in the second half of the 16th century by Ivan Shiryai and Postnik Yakovlev, two Pskov craftsmen, on the site of the Khan&#8217;s fortress, which was destroyed by explosion during the siege of the Nur-Ali Tower, or Muralleeva Tower as the Russians called it in the 16th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tower was given its first name from the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and became known as Nikolskaya. Subsequently, the tower was renamed and became a Taynitskaya Tower because of its proximity to the exploded cache, which was an underground passageway leading to the spring where the fortress&#8217;s defenders obtained drinking water during the 1552 siege.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rectangular brick tower was originally single-tiered, with a cranked passage, and finished at the top with rectangular crenelations and a wooden four-sided hipped roof. The tower acquired its current appearance in the 18th century, when it became a two-tiered tower. The passage connecting the first and second tiers is designed as a terrace with a stone parapet. The tower&#8217;s loopholes were facing the Kazanka River.
