The “First Frame” is a collaboration between the Vasilyev Brothers’ Creative Workshop and the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve. The exhibition will guide you through the dawn of the cinematic era, introducing the pioneering work of inventors who each contributed their own ‘first frame’ to the evolution of motion pictures.
The exhibition features over one hundred original devices. The collection includes animation-viewing devices, projection magic lanterns, stereoscopes for 3D imagery, optical toys, and more. All bore scientific names derived from Ancient Greek: Thaumatrope, Phenakistiscope, Zoetrope, Praxinoscope. In the interactive section of the exhibition, you can handle actual pre-cinematic inventions.
