Description of Exhibition

The exhibition features works by contemporary artists from Sergiev Posad, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and cities across Tatarstan, selected through an open competition. Several works were created specifically for this exhibition. The artists include both established masters honoured for their contributions to the arts and emerging creators whose names have yet to achieve widespread recognition.

The works employ diverse techniques — from painting and graphic arts to mosaics and stained glass — yet all unite through their common theme: interpreting the Annunciation, when the Archangel Gabriel announced the divine message to the Virgin Mary. Rooted in centuries of artistic tradition, the creators express their personal interpretations of this timeless biblical narrative, ‘retelling’ it through contemporary visual language. Often, these works are not merely fashionable statements, but manifestations of profound spiritual inquiry.

The exhibition is enhanced by 19th- to early 20th-century Annunciation icons from the collections of the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve, visually affirming this artistic tradition’s enduring continuity.

The exhibition is presented in partnership with After the Icon Art Group  — a group dedicated to exploring new artistic forms of expression in contemporary Christian art.
