Badges, medals, and orders hold a special place in the collections of the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve. Created not as awards but as miniature artistic monuments, they carefully preserve important events in Kazan’s history captured in metal, while also reflecting the images of its historical and architectural heritage.
Thus, every exhibit in this exhibition is not merely a commemorative token, but a valuable historical and artistic source, making it possible to trace the evolution of the Kazan Kremlin from a fortification to a centre of cultural memory.
Among the objects displayed in the exhibition “Time in Metal: The Kazan Kremlin on Jubilee Badges and Commemorative Medals”, one can see memory captured in metal of landmark events and significant anniversaries. Jubilee badges and commemorative medals recount the awarding of the Order of Lenin to Kazan in 1984, the 50th anniversary of the TASSR, the unrealised 800th anniversary of the city of Kazan, the inclusion of the Kazan Kremlin in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000, and the celebration of the millennium of Kazan in 2005.
