For the first time in the Kazan Kremlin, a collection of concealed weapons from the holdings of the St. Petersburg Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps is on display.
Concealed weapons, also referred to as covert carry arms, have been known since long ago. The evolution of weapons technology and the refinement of specific firearm models have continually spurred new attempts to conceal weaponry.
The greatest variety is observed in concealed bladed weapons. Thus, at the exhibition, visitors will be able to view Indo-Iranian battle-axes and a zafar takiya dagger-stand, all richly decorated with semi-precious stones and intricate metalworking techniques.
Firearms inspired a wide array of concealment techniques, ranging from early efforts to camouflage matchlock and flintlock weapons to the development of miniature ladies’ revolvers with a barrel a mere 3 centimetres long.
Among the exhibition’s exhibits, visitors will be able to view unusual engineering solutions: a knuckle-duster revolver with a folding bayonet, a double-barrelled pistol-dagger, and a pen gun.
The collection will serve as a guide to the history of concealed weapons, showcasing the full diversity of technologies, inventions, and artistic techniques employed by master craftsmen of past centuries.
