The personal exhibition «At the Beginning…» by the painter, graphic artist, and curator Leyla Faizova represents 15 works on Christian themes created in various techniques, including acrylic painting, collagraphy, and xylography.
Leyla Faizova is a participant in collective exhibitions from Tyumen to Dakar (Senegal), a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia, a member of the Grafkom Creative Association, curator of the Sviyazhsk Art Residence of State Historical, Architectural and Art Museum and Heritage Site of the Sviyazhsk Town-Island and an iconographer of the Kazan Diocesan Icon Painting Workshop.
The exposition consists of three parts, which represent the stages of the formation of the Orthodox theology. The first one is «The Source», which reflects the Old Testament history. The second section is titled «The Birth», which marks the beginning of New Testament history with the birth of Christ. The third and final one, «Now», illustrates modern versions of key Orthodox images.
The works take the viewer on a journey through the history of Christianity, beginning with the Garden of Eden and ending with the Orthodox code and the Christian matrix. For a more complete understanding of the image, fragments from the Holy Scriptures and works by prominent figures of the Church from various time periods are chosen for each piece. Thus, the viewer is encouraged to immerse himself in the essence of each work and engage in a dialogue with it.
