Description of Exhibition

The exhibition features artistic works by Anastasia Buzuneeva, handcrafted dolls by Irina Zubtsova, and decorative applied arts from the Tatar people’s collection of the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve.

Anastasia Buzuneeva is a member of the Artists’ Union of the Republic of Tatarstan. Her early years were spent in Central Asia, in Turkmenistan, where she developed not only a passion for vibrant colours and intricate patterns, but also became intimately acquainted with the distinctive costumes of the region’s numerous Turkic peoples. The artist’s distinctive style – marked by bold colour palettes – was shaped by her education at the Kazan Art College named after N.I.  Feshin, combined with professional experience in animation, restoration, and stage design. Her creative process is characterised by meticulous research into each subject – whether exploring costume traditions, folk legends and fairy tales, or artisanal crafts – before executing her works. Anastasia Buzuneeva has created several painting series, including The Dance of Syuyumbike, Dawn Over Kazan, and The Wisdom of the Tatar People. She is currently working on her series Treasures of the Ancient Turks, which will debut at this exhibition.

Irina Zubtsova, a master of decorative applied arts, came to creating handcrafted dolls through her original profession as a psychologist. Her artistic journey began in 1996 alongside her psychological work with war veterans, slowly developing into a professional art practice. To refine her professional skills, she qualified in porcelain casting and embroidery, while also studying painting and sculpture. The exhibition will feature her works in ethnic style, celebrating Tatar and Eastern cultures – each piece a unique creation with no duplicates.

Both artists regularly exhibit in Russia and worldwide. Their works are held in private collections and museum archives worldwide.

The Treasures of the Ancient Turks exhibition is enhanced with ethnographic artefacts from the collection of the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve.
