Description of Exhibition

The exhibition introduces visitors to the most fascinating items from the collection, reflecting Tatar book culture. These include 14th–19th-century manuscripts, Kazan-published Qurans, works by renowned Tatar religious figures and enlighteners of the 18th to early 20th centuries, educational literature, early 20th-century periodicals, and translations of literary works into the Tatar language.

Among the ancient manuscripts, the greatest interest is presented by “Al-Jami’ as-Sahih” by al-Bukhari, dated 1384. This compilation of Hadiths, the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad, was transcribed 640 years ago in Bukhara and originates from the library of the Tatar religious leader, historian, and enlightener Sh. Mardjani.

The rare editions of the Kazan Qurans are complemented by works of Tatar thinkers and educators (such as G. Utuz-Imyani, R. Fakhretdinov, K. Nasyri, M. Bigiev), while classics of Tatar poetry and drama (including G. Tukay, G. Kamal, F. Amirkhan) are displayed alongside translations into the Tatar language of works by Leo Tolstoy, Daniel Defoe, Alexander Pushkin, and periodicals from the turn of the 20th century.
